The Sustainable Campus Initiative that is launched by the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi
hosted a youth enviro-talk in Ummelemart Park.
The talk’s goal was to commit the youth to take sustainable actions.
Another main goal is to connect the youth with the Green Youth Majlis members.
The talk mainly was about reasons behind the trend we see today with single-use plastic.
Single-use plastics are often referred to as disposable plastics.
They are commonly used for packaging and include items
intended to be used once only before they are thrown away.
Some of these plastics might be recycled. These plastics include grocery bags,
food packaging, bottles, straws, containers, cups and cutlery.
This talk is related to our topic which is biodiversity
because at some point this plastic is thrown into the ocean or on soil.
Some species end up eating those plastics which might lead to their death.
This will have an impact on the biodiversity of the ecosystem.
This talk got us to think about solutions that we as individuals could take.
We could avoid the use of plastic spoons and forks.
We could also start using recyclable bags for grocery shopping
instead of getting new plastic bags at every visit.
