How is the city where we live?
Various comfortable facilities such as convenience transportation, high buildings designed with glass make us live in a better condition.
However, at the hidden side of the city, destruction of environment caused by indiscriminate development, emission of green-house gas and increase of energy usage are making problems.
And the damages are coming back to us. We are dying because of us.
We are not saying that let’s make a drastic choice like “stop development for environment, or give up environment for development.”
We have a duty to protect environment because it is where we live now and our descendants will live. Co-exist with nature and environment! We have to change the city through sustainable development. We learned cases of Green City that harmonizes environmental preservation and development through three Green Cities-Curitiba of Brazil, Freiburg of Germany, Masdar of UAE.
After the class, students drew our future environmental city that we are dreaming of.
Let’s look at the Green City, the environmental city, of future.
Students concentrated on drawing. There are common garden sky-high buildings, but trees are planted on the buildings. Ecological Park is set up on buildings.
We can easily see the ‘roof garden’ that made on the rooftop.
But it’s not popular yet. We hope green roof garden will be set on all buildings.
A helicopter in the sky is not the same one with a helicopter as we have known. She explained it is run by solar power energy. Solar panels are on the tail of the helicopter to produce energy from solar heat.
The roof has a solar panel like the case of Freiburg, Germany, to produce energy from solar heat. Also there are flowers and trees in places, wind power plant that produce energy by wind, green eco-shop on the right side.
It is not a professional and exquisite, but we can see her dreaming Green city of the future.
We cannot make a building, bike path and build up a green land right now.
But there must be something we can do as a student!
We can join making Green City by saving energy and water, protecting environment in our daily lives with the responsibility and duty.
