Earth Walk for Climate Refugee

2012 summer, Daejayon visited Bangladesh. 

However, before a few days we departed, Bangladesh was completely devastated by typhoon.
While discussing how to help climate refugee with Chittagong City Corporation, an official said that everyone in Chittagong is now climate refugee. And they asked us to help them.

Here are photos of Chittagong.
We could see that everywhere was destroyed and flooded.
And trashes which had floated down were piled up at the corner.

The typhoon struck not only Chittagong, but all of Bangladesh.
It left a huge damage and sadly most of Bangladesh was flooded.

In this photo, we could guess how large amount of rain poured down.

Nevertheless, people try to earn money by cycle-rickshaw to live.
Actually, there are not so many people who can work like this because they are those who had already left their flooded hometown.

We can see a temporary house at a side of road.
Their happy face makes our heart sad more.
 

The most urgent things for climate refugees are house and drinking water.
Most people live in mud hut, but it is prone to leak and collapse.
As their condition is bad like this, so they really need our help so much.

Here, climate refugees gather together and live in a house.

Don’t….. be surprise too much.
There are so many people who need our helping hands in Bangladesh.

So!!!!
Daejayon visited them.
Daejayon has carried out various events to help climate refugees.
Everyone knows it, right?
In order to listen what they need and how we can help them in concretely, we did interviews.

She has no livelihood because her husband have lost his workplace,

He said he necessarily needs help in order to raise a child.

And those who call out for help with tears….
Our heart was sorry for them.

Our steps with Daejayon to help ‘climate refugees’ is

getting close to dejected refugees of Bangladesh as a hope.
