On March 23rd, Saturday, at the Citizens Hall, Seoul City Hall, Seoul Plaza, Cheonggye Plaza and GwangHwamun Area, Earth Hour 2013 was held by the host of Earth Hour Korea.

Earth Hour Campaign is held annually on Saturday last week of March, from late 8:30 to 9:30 for 60 minutes.

Since 2007, the 1st Earth Hour was held in Sydney Australia, it has been spread rapidly throughout the whole world, and every year, it holds more and more participants.

Last year, 2012, it was even larger with billions of people taking part in 7,001 cities from 152 countries on every continent.

Especially, during the Earth Hour 2012, only in public building sector, Korea had official result of saving 4,128,000kwh of electricity, which is the same amount of 1,749 tons of greenhouse gases saved by planting 629,640 of young pine trees. And it was officially reported that Seoul City saved 2.3 billion Won (2 million dollars) of electricity on the very day.

Considering the nations with Summer Time System, Earth Hour 2013 was held on March 23rd, a week before the original date.

Daejayon took part in the Earth Hour 2013.

From late 8:30 to 9:30, at the outdoor exhibition, KUSEP and Natural Environment Research Team, environmental clubs of Korea University and Dongnam Health College, opened Green Market for the climate refugees of Bangladesh.
Even Nature+ from Shingu College couldn’t be in the Green Market on that day; Nature+ helped to make eco-friendly soaps and eco-friendly air fresher.

This time’s Green Market was composed by Daejayon’s own sensuously designed exhibition booths.

When we think of the fact that this day was Saturday, which everyone takes rests or has fun, but surprisingly, all the students from KUSEP and Natural Environment Research Team was early in the place and helped to build the booths. So it went out all fast and smooth.

In this time, we couldn’t have a big Green Market, but it was so practical and efficient.

Natural Environment Research Team was charged the sales of Eco-Stuffs and other things. And they did awesome job! Natural Environment Research Team, who had enthusiasmately worked for Green Market.

They were so friendly to citizens and all the guests of Green Market; Daejayon is so proud of you and very grateful to you also!

A great number of people happily visited Green Market for the climate refugees of Bangladesh.

One student was working very hard for explaining why university students are managing Green Market; therefore many people can experience Green Market.

And also KUSEP, environmental club of Korea University, was charged of sales of clothing, and they were very diligent and hard-working.

They not only sold the clothes, but also arranged so many clothes by themselves.

So time flew while Natural Environment Research Team and KUSEP worked very hard together for Green Market.

University students made all their efforts for Green Market which truly brought out the participation of people and people’s awareness on the Bangladeshi climate refugees who lost their livelihood because of climate change.

Throughout the whole event, Daejayon was so happy due to the fact that it was university students who were doing this precious work together.

On last picture with Lee Jong-hyun, the representative of Earth Hour Korea, who had made all his strength and effort to whole Earth Hour 2013.

Now it’s time to say farewell to Green Market for the Climate Refugees of Bangladesh on Earth Hour ‘Turning the Lights Out’

Daejayon feels excitement already even by thinking about donating this event’s benefit to climate refugees of Bangladesh in 2013.

Daejayon promises that the university student environmentalists full of enthusiasm will present you more various and meaningful activities more and more near future.
