17. PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS

We were invited to the 22nd International Mother Language Day

by the Embassy of Bangladesh to Korea.

International Mother Language Day iwas first announced by UNESCO on 1999.

It was the initiative of Bangladesh to celebrate this day

as in Bangladesh February 21 is the anniversary of the day

when Bangladeshis fought for recognition for the Bangla language.

The Ambassador of Bangladesh to Korea, Secretary General of UNESCO Seoul,

Director General for Asian and Pacific Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs,

Ambassador of New Zealand, Canada and Sierra Leone to the Rep. of Korea participated today.

Also many other people participated for the celebration

but due to the Novel Coronavirus-19 there were still people who couldn't participate.

Ms. Abida Islam, the Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Rep. of Korea, said

that "Bangladesh" is from the word Bengal and the word it self means the country of Bengal.

Also she emphasized that Benglai and Korean has a comon history of resisting for language.

So there must be diversity of language by multilingual based on native language.

She was also concerned that our mother languages will be extinct.

there was a commemorative photo of the distinguished guests!

Cultural performance was prepared.

Dance by India

Musical performance by Ecuador

Traditional performance by Korea

When the full event was finished, DAEJAYON and the students of Nature Plus

took a commemorative photo with the Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Rep. of Korea.

Now, second foreign language is not an option, but a must.

English becoming first than Korean.

In these circumstances, it was a meaningful time

to think about the importance and value of mother language!
