On December 7th, 2007, an oil tanker collided with a barge carrying a large crane

at sea 5 miles away from the Manlipo-port, Taean-gun, South Chungcheong Province, Korea.

By this accident,

about 10,500㎘(66000bl, 12,547kg) of oil was spilled in the sea off Taean.

It is the largest oil leakage ever in Korea.

Taean-gun was designated as a special disaster area.

Due to this accident,

4,627ha of fishery, 400ha of 15 beaches,

167km of coastline, and 24 islands were damaged.

Above all, it killed so many species of marine organisms.

Daejayon members departed in the early morning,

started clean-up from the morning.

The oil stench was full in the air of Hagampo beach.

We removed oil from the oil-contaminated stones with absorbent paper.

The oil spread here and there...

It will get harder to recover the beach as time goes on

due to penetration to soil.

Although all suffered from headache due to oil smell,

we were happy with that there was something we could do.

We hope a quick recovery of Taean peninsula!!
