Introduction of Green World

Today is the day of appointment ceremony for university student delegation of C40 Large Cities Climate Summit.

200 members of Daejayon were appointed as a delegation by Seoul City.

Do you know that more than 80% of global greenhouse gas is emitted from cities which take merely 2% of earth's surface?

It is why C40 Large Cities Climate Summit counts!

C40 was proposed by Ken Livingstone, the Lord Mayor of London, in Oct 2005.

C40 is a conference established in London for joint confrontation toward climate change

with 18 representatives of world cities.

C means 'city' and 'climate', and 40 means '40 cities'.

C40 is also called 'Environmental Olympic' 

to show the cities' will to protect the environment.

After the 1st conference in 2005,

the 2nd summit was held in New York in May 2007 with 51 representatives,

and the 3rd summit will be held in Seoul for 4 days from May 18, 2009.

Let's look at the words of Ken Livingstone,

which show the motive of establishing C40.

"Countries have begun taking action but their progress is painfully slow.
The key to winning the war with climate change is in the hands of cities."

The countries move slowly for their interest,

but the cities can react faster!

Under the theme of 'results of climate change and assignment for it',

the current state of each country's climate change response

and technology development & use experience of new renewable energy and energy efficiency will be covered in the 3rd summit.

From today, Daejayon will visit the internal and external city halls,

promote C40, share the environmental policies,

and endeavor to make a green city with Seoul citizens!
