Today, we had Little DAEJAYON environment education at Inchang Middle School.

Have you ever heard about Airpocalypse?

Airpocalypse, a newly coined word suggested by the Financial Times,

is a combination of "air" and "apocalypse."

It's a term referring to the disaster or the end of the world caused by air pollution.

In the case of China, where economy grew rapidly in a short time,

they use half of the world’s coal consumption. 

About 80 percent of China's carbon dioxide emissions come from coal.

Vehicle exhaust ranks second in nitrogen compound emissions in China.

China is expected to pay handling expense for environmental pollution.

The amount is equivalent to KRW 83,676.285 billion.

According to the research "Impact of Air Pollution on Health and Loss of Labor Productivity"

released in 2015 by Rand Corporation, a social indicator research organization,

they estimated that solving air pollution, alone, has more than $500 billion annual benefits. 

Airpocalypse was started in Beijing, China.

In December 2015,

more than 200 among 500 flights scheduled to take off and land at Beijing Airport

has been canceled due to the ultrafine dust (PM2.5) concentration of 592mg/m²,

and the vehicle had pile-up because they couldn’t see a meter ahead.

An 8-year-old girl had lung cancer in Jiangsu at the end of 2013,

and there was a 2-month-old baby who had pneumonia of unknown case.

Airpocalypse is threatening our lives.

Although we can survive a week without water,

we can never do for five minutes without air.

Fine dust is directly and indirectly damaging our lives

such as living environment, agricultural climate refugees and global warming.

Through the lecture we had time to think about what we could do for the Earth.

Following was the activity making "Natural Antibacterial Hand Wash."

Everyone knows that fine dust exposes us to a variety of infectious diseases, doesn’t it?

We made the hand wash with natural Ingredients.

Based on what we learned today,

let's become Little DAEJAYON that helps the environment

by practicing small things in our life!
