Hello, we are Eco Fighters!
This time, in cooperation with the American University in Ras Al Khaimah,
an awareness booth of sustainability was placed at AURAK student center
which is an area with a high frequency of visitors!
The goal of the booth is to raise awareness about sustainability
and enhance the students' practice of electronic waste recycling. :)
An animation video was designed and created by our team members
to demonstrate the issue of electronic waste its impact on the environment.
The animated video shed light on the impact of e-waste on the environment, marine life,
and how it is contaminating the groundwater after seeping into the soil.
In addition to the above, flyers and posters were printed
using recycled paper and handed out to the visitors!
These flyers included brief information on how to recycle different types of materials,
how to reduce plastic consumption, and how we can contribute to saving the environment. :)
The flyers also included contact numbers of
recycling companies across the United Arab Emirates!
Our electronic waste bin created by our team members during Environmental Learning Mission,
was displayed at the booth to promote e-waste recycling!
This e-waste bin was made with recycled materials and obsolete electronics.
These materials include CDs, keyboard keys, wires,
recycled cardboard box, and solar energy lights!
The shiny side of our E-waste bin which was created using CDs
has attracted many visitors to out booth.
They were all intrigued by the mirror-like part of it,
which has aroused their curiosity and interest in participating in the activity.
The bin was placed at the university for more than a week to enable students
and faculty to dispose their e-waste in it. :)
The campaign had an influence on more than 50 students and staff
at the American University of RAK, it has also changed their perception of electronic waste.
A majority of the attendees were not aware that electronic waste causes severe damage
to the environment, marine life, and human health.
They were not aware that these devices contain valuable metals
that can be recycled and reused for various purposes. :)
Additionally, several engineering students said that
they had been keeping their hazardous electronic scrap
which was previously used in their projects!
They were unaware of the proper procedure that must be taken
to dispose hazardous electronic waste that is considered flammable and explosive. :)
After visiting our booth, they have learned valuable lessons about electronic waste recycling
and they were introduced to several companies in the UAE
which are specialized in e-waste recycling, such as Enviroserve in Dubai. :)
This event was meaningful to us and the participants!
Let's meet again at our next activity. :)
