My first visit to the Environment Agency in Abu Dhabi was not enough for me,

it actually made me more eager to learn more about my surrounding environment.

 I talked to Mr. Wael Taher Salem, from Soils & Marine Water Policy & Regulations department,

we discussed about the latest regulations and laws that is being implemented in the country,

these regulations were decided after extensive research

and data collection in the context of the UAE.

For instance, assessing sites for soil contamination and making sure

that the soil in Abu -Dhabi does not contain any hazardous material

by carefully studying the different types of sand and soil.

 Another example is the discharge standards to the marine environment,

which enforces the industries to limit the discharge of treated wastewater in the sea

and meet some standards to ensure the health of the marine life.

After that, I met the Environment Agency’s outsourcing team, which is a team dedicated

to handle the communication between external organizations and internal sections.

They are working in four major projects

which are Green Business Network, Green Campus and Green Schools, and Green World.

All of these projects aim to spread awareness and encourage organization to take a part

in the responsibility of protecting the environment and contributing toward sustainability.

I really enjoyed talking to the different teams in the Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi,

as they are well informed and passionate about their job, which was very inspiring to me.
