On September 10th, inside of Crystal Ballroom, Lotte Hotel Jeju was full of green waves.
WCC is the world’s largest and most important conservation event. Held every four years, it aims to improve how we manage our natural environment for human, social and economic development.
Not only Governments, NGOs, academics and corporates participate, but also the press and experts from various fields gather, and put their heads together to solve the environmental issues.
WCC is so-called Environmental Olympics, as you can see, it’s well-known and authoritative in the field of environment.
Among that, 'Young Leaders for Green Action!’ had been hosted by Daejayon.
This time’s event of WCC re-acknowledged the importance of the role of university students, the young leaders.
The point is that now, it’s time for us, the university students who are the generation of real action and practice should take part in the environmental gatherings which have been only led by the older generation.
The Conservation Campus had been preceeeded in a way of debating and exchanging the opinions about the environmental issues after the presentation.
Pauline Gerrard, MD. Coordinator of Online Education of International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and Hideya Ochiai, the associate professor of Tokyo University participated for giving presentation. Lee Hye-gyoung, director of Daejayon was a moderator. Kim Ock-hyun, director of Daejayon shared his presentation with us at the first.
And many foreign figures visited our session.
They are really interested in the activities of Daejayon.
Not only university students but various generations participated in the Conservation Campus of Daejayon.
“What makes you come here?” As we asked, he said “there are two reasons to come.”
First is because his son is now the youth, and the other is that he is a teacher.
Absolutely!! The true meaning of Daejayon’s Conservation Campus is to spread the importance of the role of university students to the world.
Antonio, the President of Ecological Society in the Philippines who made a keynote speech, and Daejayon are already “the Best Partner and the Best Friend.”
Through the speech, he emphasized the importance of beauty of nature and the role of university students, and also encouraged Daejayon for the hopeful future.
The President of Daejayon emphasized the real practice led by university students.
After the speech, though watching of the introduction film of Daejayon, we shared how the university students have been working for the environment.
The film was updated, so the activity of this summer vacation had been put in.
This summer, Daejayon went out 13 different countries and carried out many activities like education and campaign with the goal of establishing IGCAUS [International Green Campus Association of University Students]
The souvenirs were leaflets, tumblers, post-its and multi-functional clocks.
And also, there were panel exhibition and making a button corner.
The panel exhibition was consisted of global warming and its cause, natural disasters and the activities of Daejayon.
There was placard performance with message.
Many people who participated WCC cheered us, and many presses have been gathered to take a photos of us.

The first presentation was given by Kim Ock-hyun, director of Daejayon.
He shared with us about “the meaning and way to build Green Campus.”
And the next presentation was led by Hideya Ochiai, the associate professor of Tokyo University.
He gave us chance to know what is Green Building and how does its system work, and also the importance of the eco-friendly buildings.
The last presenter was Pauline Geerard from International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) in Canada. She let us know the leadership that the university students should have in order to establish Green Campus through the lecture “Leadership and Change.”
After the presentation, we had the time for exchanging our opinions and tried to find the best solution for each subject.
And this event’s highlighted point was “the 2012 Daejayon Jeju Declaration.”
Daejayon Conservation Campus was a festival of the enthusiastic global green leaders who will surprise the whole world! We hoped Daejayon to wake up the world and save the earth together.
