그린세미나 IN CAMPUS
with Catholic University Nonrack
Sogang University Campus Greener
and Daejayon
First, we started with the seminar of Catholic University, Nonrack.
ㅣThe impact of Climate Change to plants and animals
"Mosquito" the time of appearance moved forward and disease increased
"Frog" spawning period moved up
"Fishes resources" appearance of sharks, disturbing the marine ecosystem, squid became valuable
"Size Variation" the size of animals shrunk
"Habitat Variation" movement of US oak tree, Korea growing bananas and coffee
"Human beings" increase in the risk of diseases, habitat destruction, bad influence to mental health
ㅣEndangered Species due to Climate Change
IUCN Red List, among 71891 species
Vulnerable 11316 species
Endangered 7781 species
Critically Endangered 5210 species
Extinct in the Wild 68 species
Extinct 860 species
ㅣTypical Endangered Species

Next, Sogang University environmental cub Campus Greener's seminar followed.
ㅣDestruction of Forests
Forests 11 times the size of Pyongyang, North Korea destroyed
72% of virgin forests in Indonesia
The size of Philippines forest shrunk to 25% of the country's territory
ㅣInfluence in the destruction of Forests
- The loss of self-purification capacity of the Earth
Forests absorb carbon dioxide. But when forests are destroyed the carbon dioxide the trees absorbed are released back to the atmosphere.
It changes from carbon sinks to emission source.
- If the glaciers melt, unknown viruses appear and this new infectious disease are difficult to cure.
- Desertification starts on 1/3 of the earth's surface
ㅣCause
- secure cultivated land for food production
moving fire agriculture in tropical rainforest heritage. burns the forests to gain organic matters
terrace farming in China and etc.., cuts down all trees
- excessive logging for wood
20~40% of commercial wood is used in paper manufacture
- activity for economic interests
Plantation(farms growing and selling crops for industrial and commercial use)
Burn down virgin forests and plant plants that are necessary
farming for commercial purpose, dam construction
If it is a virgin forest or not, if it's a plant doesn't it all absorb carbon dioxide?
Trees planted for plantation(cacao, oil palm etc..) absorbs only 20% of carbon dioxide compare to virgin forests
- destruction of forests in daily life
paper, waste paper, paper cups etc...
ㅣAction
Actions of environmental club, Campus Greener
- collect reusable paper in campus and make them into a notebook
- make Felt Cup Holder and hand out, by Green Art Campus Campaign with Daejayon
- donate the sales of up-cycling products for creating forests to prevent micro-dusts

Using the rest time, we made my-own-eco-pouch.
Eco-pouch is non-fluorescent, non-pigment, it is made up of materials that minimize the destruction of the environment.
Same material as eco-bag.
DIY Eco-pouch designed by fabric marker!
Next, through 'Daejayon Report' from Daejayon we demanded our choices.
And after discussing about the role of Catholic University's environmental club,
each team had a presentation about it and 3 teams were given an eco-box as a gift!
