First, we started with the seminar of Sangmyung University, Palette.

Where is the final destination of the wastes we throw?

270 million tons of waste went to the oceans from the land!

Trash Isles 7 times bigger than South Korea

Newly emerging problems,

'microbeads', fine plastic that are in detergent, toothpaste, etc...

Fishes eat the microbeads and people eat the fishes..

eventually the microbeads come in our bodies!

In average, plastic takes 400 years to fully disappear.

Ocean Desertification

When calcium carbonate dissolved in the sea educe and attaches to marine creatures, floor of the sea of rocks and makes the sea look white.

One of the effective causes are,

rise of sea temperature due to global warming

solidification due to the decrease of the solubility of CO₂ 

Indiscreet coastal development

Desertification is rapidly on going in these areas.

62% of Korea's East Sea started desertification

1200ha is increasing every year

(140 times the size of Sangam World Cup Stadium)

The Problem of Desertification of the Sea

Marine creatures that live in neutrality condition can not live

when calcium carbonate educes and makes the sea strong alkali.

Coral the home of fishes is bleaching, the extinction of corals are rapidly in progress

the decrease of prey for sea animals

Devastation of marine ecosystem

melting glaciers, expansion of sea water through temperature rise...

eventually cause sea level rise

1. Rising of natural disasters; floods, typhoon etc..

2. territory loss

3. occurrence of environmental refugee
(42million people in 2010, billion people estimated in the year 2050)
